Re: 2015 Front Axle Nut Size

33mm is correct size. Using the backed out bolts a socket and the extension worked perfect to push wheel bearing off while turning wheel. Having ability to lock axle with lockers (bypass switch) made this job easier. Side note: even with locker bypass the front locker refused to engage with wheel sp...

2015 Front Axle Nut Size

After 94k (from 26k to 94k with 37s), looks like it's time for a new wheel bearing front driver side. Can someone indicate the size of the front axle nut so I can make sure I have the right socket before pulling the anvil tires off  ? On a side note, to get the bearing out, does the turn the wh...

Re: confused trans

Program the truck for the tire size. Really helps. There is also a transmission relearn sequence that can be triggered but wait until you reprogram the tire size. Sent from my SM-N976V using Tapatalk Is the relearn something that is more complicated than simply disconnecting the battery for 10 minu...

Re: Antifreeze smell

I had a thermostat thread a while back, my seal tore completely. It had zero effect on the coolant smell, I had it before and I have it still now after a new thermostat. Honestly I think the coolant smell comes out of the vent on the tank on the passengers side fire wall, just a wild guess. My truck...

Re: Intermediate Steering Shaft/Upper Steering Coupler Question

POPPING NOISE 1. Loose steering gear mounting fasteners. 1. Check fasteners for proper torque and retighten as necessary. 2. Loose outer tie rod mounting nut or jam nut. 2. Check fastener torque. Replace nuts as necessary and tighten to specifications. 3. Loose intermediate (steering) shaft coupling...

Re: Intermediate Steering Shaft/Upper Steering Coupler Question

pry up and down on knuckles with a pry bar. If you have over 0.090" of movement they're bad, if not they're good. From the service procedure to check them.

Re: Intermediate Steering Shaft/Upper Steering Coupler Question

Still have an occasional pop which is a different noise all together occurring usually when turning at slow speed once when turning wheel in new direction i have a pop/Clunk sound when i get to the steer stops in either direction. slow parking lot type maneuvering, crank the wheel any direction, wi...

Re: Intermediate Steering Shaft/Upper Steering Coupler Question

Interesting. I’m chasing a dead spot with a slight clunk in my steering. I seem to have visually and audibly tracked it to the rubber boot area of the shaft but haven’t pulled it yet. Shop said my ball joints were good however he said only one had “less than 1/8 inch play” Likely the shop just eyeb...

Re: Intermediate Steering Shaft/Upper Steering Coupler Question

Had a bad shock the whole time which was causing noise on compression over bumps. Still have an occasional pop which is a different noise all together occurring usually when turning at slow speed once when turning wheel in new direction but is no where near as bad as the noise on compression was. Ba...

Re: Antifreeze smell

Don't be afraid to call to various dealers about thermostat availability that's how I found a replacement for my 2015. Took a bit more effort than the standard google part number only search.

Re: 2013+ truck steering nut recall?

Thuren put up a CAD of an interesting improvement solution which would extend the width of the jam nuts and add strength to the drag link. I suppose the threaded area of the drag link can be somewhat of a weak link in rock crawling situations, the extended width jam nuts would reinforce that area so...

Re: 6th Recall WTF ?

It’s just for the two drag link jam nuts and adjustment sleeve. Check to make sure yours are tight and there is no obvious thread damage and you’re good to go.

Re: 2013+ truck steering nut recall?

Just speaking to what I was told. I have big adjustable wrenches and big arms so I’ve never had the adjustment loosen on me after I personally adjusted it twice (once after Thuren springs, a second time after Thuren track bar). I did have it loosen after an alignment but i fixed it easy enough.

Re: 2013+ truck steering nut recall?

Welding seems excessive!!! Wonder why thread locker can't fix this issue... One of the mechanics on the facebook group indicated that they are replacing the nuts and sleeve and adding blue loctite. With today's media would not be hard to believe they'd confuse welding with tightening new hardware l...

Re: 2013+ truck steering nut recall?

Did you read the "fix" for the issue? It involves welding the nuts to the sleeve, not happening on mine unless they get certified welders to do it(not trusting the "authorized techs " who have trouble changing oil to do it right). Not just that but you no longer will be able to re center wheel if a...

Re: Big Mods to a 2014+

I daily drove a 570-590 rwhp 3/4 ton 97 2500 12v for years. By far the biggest money I had in that truck was the trans (goerend billet input and output, stock intermediate shafts). Mechanical fuel parts (no computer in that truck, all mechanical springs, delivery valves, etc.) and turbos were not ne...

Re: Big Mods to a 2014+

If spending that kind of money there is no need to live within the engineering constraints the FCA folks did when designing and implementing the HC motor. You can do better for that amount of money. Assuming you're not an engine builder get with a high quality shop who has a good reputation and tell...

Re: Big Mods to a 2014+

You can go bigger than 426, into the low 440 range. I was advised heat/durability could be a concern in larger options however in trucks like ours. I'm assuming bore size was limiting the large displacement options. I've only looked at any of this half assedly.

Re: Big Mods to a 2014+

Whipple would probably produce power in the rpms more beneficial to HD truck use. This is what I would do Magnusson also makes a kit for the 2014 and newer trucks Yes, if money is no object. Last I checked the whipple kit is around $7k. Thing is you'll still have the suspect MDS system in place. IM...

Re: Big Mods to a 2014+

With heads that flow in the low to mid 300 cfm range right right as they sit a cam swap could be worth about 100hp on one of these motors assuming the intake manifold can support the heads and you've already got a set of long tube headers. Issue is being able to get enough cam in the motor to not vo...

Did you follow the service manual and check your ball joints?
I've not yet but will possibly this weekend. Wow, 0.090" combined is not a whole lot of movement before considered bad.....
