Re: New member from Montana

There's nothing more disappointing than 35's on a Power Wagon. It's like finding a magic lamp and telling the genie 5".

Re: Recall done

I looked at my paperwork from the MDS lifter saga and it turns out I had the T79 recall performed. I haven't driven the truck very much in the last three months so I can't give a baseline on what sorted out my transmission but between lower gears, ProCal 4.88 flash, and recall the trans is better th...

Re: Reloaderguy's Build Thread - 2016 Laramie Power Wagon

Changed the diff fluid front and rear at the 500 mile break in on the new gears. Nothing out of the ordinary to see. Something worth noting is how clean the locker magnets are and how well the FilterMag works. The magnets look like they are covered in fuzz with is metal from the new gears. The rear ...

Lots of :cash: :cash: :cash: spent on mods and "improvements". If you don't baseline and then quantify the impacts, you never know if the bang is worth the buck. That's big value of the forum - not everyone has to experiment - we can learn from others that do it right and have the data from measure...

Re: 37" tires with 4.10 for those who do have

I am on stock size tires as I think you are, and even with those I would like 4.56's, if not 4.88's. The trans gears are just so high. When the jump to 37's comes I think I will go to 5.13's. Funny—all this talk of gearing and tires, at one point 4.88’s & 37’s were like the holy grail step-up for t...

Take a look at my build thread, I edited all of the mods into the first post. There doesn't appear to be a limit to the number of images in one post.

Re: 37" tires with 4.10 for those who do have

If you only do work in the forward direction, it reduces to a question of optimization... If backing something heavy up a winding hill in 4Lo is in the picture, I would think twice about the "weaker" gear set. I've been in 4Lo reverse with the wheels taking turns breaking loose - stock gears - hopi...

Re: 37" tires with 4.10 for those who do have

That was my original train of thought. 5.13 w/ 40's is roughly equivalent to 4.88 w/37's. However, that makes the assumption that 4.88 w/ 37's is optimal. Now that I have hands on experience with 5.13 w/37's I would probably not go with 4.88 w/ 37's. I doubt I would yank out the 4.88 for 5.13 though.

Re: 37" tires with 4.10 for those who do have

2k RPM's at 70MPH seems perfect. I should have gone 5.38. It's not going to be a bust but 5.13 feels so good with 37's. Older trucks with the 545 is a whole different story.

Re: 37" tires with 4.10 for those who do have

If you’re going 40’s you’d be far better served by 5.38’s feels pretty good and will probably still be OK, but 5.38” will never be too deep. That’s what she said ... But seriously, I have a ½” worth of gear envy. This is sort of analogous to the 2.5” vs 3.0” front King debate. When do you hit...

The Power Wagon comes lifted. You can't have a lift and heavy duty plow springs.

Because the snowplow prep group includes heavier front springs and the PW comes with linear rate 2" lift coils.

The stock bumper on my 3G has taken 3 separate shots from deer. One at 80 mph right into the winch. My Aluminess bumper has taken 3 shots from deer, and you can't even tell.
You need a deer whistle mounted to a train horn.

Can’t believe it has been close to 2 years since I did all the work to the Power Wagon. All in all it has been working great but I was missing some low end after the upgrades which didn’t make sense because the camshaft was supposed to help with it. I finally took it to a local tuner in Richmond ca...

Re: grill guard

Additionally grill guards destroy your truck in a crash. Caving into the front end. Better to save for a nice bumper instead as was mentioned. The factory bumper does a fairly good job against deer for being tin foil. Like you said, any of the bolt-on light bars on the market will likely increase t...

It's a common complaint caused by the horn going through the CANBUS. Not all trucks have the delayed horn though.

I went back to grommets because of the noise but I have a different transfer case with different linkage. If you get noise you can try a rubber dampener on the rod.

Yeah, I've been pondering on those two as my truck finally runs the way it should. Not looking to go backwards. Mine too. I now have three outstanding recalls and I doubt I'll bother with any of them. Same. After the whole deal with Larry H Miller charging me and arm and a leg for a "diagonstic" to...
