At the very beginning of all of this, what did the noise start off sounding like? Like a lifter tick? An exhaust leak?

You got me all fawking paranoid now.
Like valvetrain noise. Now it sounds like a damaged cam shaft. Probably the same problem Nick is experiencing. I should know for sure soon.

Re: A Tale of Diagnostic Woe

After the 8 hour drive to the new dealer the engine is singing a loud song. They're tearing it down tomorrow.

Re: 37" tires with 4.10 for those who do have

He's not the only one. I think Lee blew up a set of Nitro 9.25. I believe Lee was towing someone out of mud, in reverse. Operator error. Chris S in Moab knew what he was doing on the original install and the culprit came down to the ring gear hardware supplied by Nitro being too short. The bolts al...

For what it's worth, AAM makes 5.13 OEM.

A lot easier to just deny there is any problem at all. Or that it's not their fault.

I'm not sure what he means but the OE y pipe is probably the largest restriction in the exhaust system. Duals aren't needed if you replace the Y pipe and run 3.5" pipe back.

Reloader, has the dealer brought up anything about you doing the oil changes and not them, and using something other than the mopar oil?
No, never. I'm taking it to another dealer next Monday. They're going to fix it, I have a serious contact there and they know what has been going on.

Re: 37" tires with 4.10 for those who do have

The drive side of a gear set on a low pinion axle is the strongest side of the teeth. The coast side is the weak side so loading the gears in reverse can break them. The deeper/lower the gears, the more inherently weak the gears are because of how small the pinion becomes (on most standard axles). I...

But you can go to another dealer and/or complain to FCA. If those are exhausted, yes you'd have to go the legal route. Rarely happens, usually its the on call guy at the desk and service manager will reverse it or service manager reverses course when FCA calls. Bullshit, I'm going through it right ...

Re: Thuren Track Bar

If you don't have a vice you can slide the frame end of the TB (the large end with the poly bushings) into the receiver hitch and then tighten the heim jam nut to spec. Remove the poly bushings before you clamp the end of the bar so it doesn't deflect when tightening.

To delete the CAD you need a 2lo kit and either machined '13 long side shaft or RCV's. Maybe in the future but it's not overly important right now.

Will do. The warranty saved me money on the valvetrain issues but the hassle is only worth it if something expensive needs replaced/fixed as was the case for me. Agreed. I have gone back and forth with myself trying to determine if I should keep the lifetime warranty or not. Between worrying about ...

The only part I can't find information on is the inner axle seal for the CAD. Does anyone have schematics of the seals and source for the CAD seal driver?
The video I posted earlier is a how-to for setting up both axle gear sets without the CAD.

Re: 37" tires with 4.10 for those who do have

I've done Dana 60's and 70's which are much harder to do because it's all adjusted with shims. At least the AAM axles have spanner nut adjustment on the carrier bearings, that's half the battle. GM 14 bolt and Ford 9" are the easiest. Every mechanical discipline incorporates a margin of error, just...

Depends on how much hassle you want it it gets screwed up.
Lets say I pay someone to do it and it gets screwed up, how much hassle will it be getting them to fix it right?

This is a teachable moment. Drive down to HF and buy a full set of metric and standard deepwell impacts up to 30mm and 1.5". You should have them anyways and feel bad if you don't. Buy a 3' breaker bar and 250lb torque wrench while you're there. The torque wrench will be good enough for suspension c...
