Re: Intial Impressions from a Noob

Funny, but who are we to talk? Our 3/4 ton trucks can’t legally carry 1500 pounds. Very true, but our trucks are very specifically designed for off-road capability. It's a compromise that I'm willing to live with. If you want haul 2000 lbs, get a standard Ram 2500 with the 392 and the 4.10 gears fo...

Re: Folding in Mirrors for better fuel mileage?

Sounds like a good way to run over a Prius. Most states also require a drivers side door mirror. Probably all states. I would vote no.

Re: Winch works 5 seconds or less

So it was the plug, specifically the ground wire in the plug. I replaced it with a new one, made sure every connection was sparkly clean and removed the LVI and the thermal overload. It's almost like a normal Warn now. I also put in an Odyssey extreme battery, so hopefully now I am good. I know I ha...

Re: My extreme snow run

Looks like fun. Here in southern Colorado there is barely any snow yet. I could still get to a 13000 ft pass near me with no issue. Maybe Thursday we will get that storm from the PNW...

Re: Winch works 5 seconds or less

When you fixed it. Pack de-electrical grease in the plug socket. It will keep the socket connections from rusting out. Make sure you get the back of the socket too. I used dielectric grease on all my connections for the lockers and swaybar, and I did the winch remote too. It looks pretty good, but ...

Re: Winch works 5 seconds or less

Thanks Coder. I give up today. It is cold and I am losing patience. I will try to work on it this weekend when it warms up. FYI, you don't have to remove the bumper to drop the winch. I removed the side rollers and upper roller on the fairlead and used an extension on the 4 bolts. Everything else co...

Re: Winch works 5 seconds or less

The winch is out now, cleaned the contacts. Hooked it to the battery and it worked fine. Unhooked battery, bolted cover on, retested, no work. Bypassed LVI, bypassed thermal, no work. Each relay in the control pack gets power to the small wires, but still won't work. I am thinking the control plug, ...

Do I need to drop the winch to get the control pack off? I'm not sure, but I swear I heard electrical arcing from the control pack. It was hard to pin down because it happened so fast and my patience was gone...

Re: Winch works 5 seconds or less

Battery is at least 2 years old. I bought the truck January 2016, it was in it. Should have enough juice for a no load wind up.

Re: Winch works 5 seconds or less

I already bypassed the thermal cutout, so I think it might be the low voltage interrupt, but I'm not sure.

Winch works 5 seconds or less

I had no luck with a search, so here goes. My winch worked 2 days ago when I hooked up to my travel trailer in a wind storm. Yesterday I went to spool it back up and it only works for about 5 seconds and then stops and has to rest for 30 seconds. I had to remove the cable, and of course lost the cab...

Re: Whats your Favorite Trails?

Some trails that I like in the wagon: Mojave Road Death Valley trails: Mengel Pass, Steele Pass, Lippincott Pass, Echo Canyon Colorado: (so far, got way more exploration to do) Hermit Pass (easy but rough) Blanca Peak (plan on scratches and dents in a wagon) Medano Pass (lots of brush, plan on scrat...

Re: 3rd Gen Front Driveshaft Removal?

I did mine, just don't remember how. I think I just used a long extension for that end. It was harder at the axle end because of the torx bolts. You need a long torx on a socket drive to get enough leverage.

Re: Exhaust Help

I totally understand the need for quiet performance exhaust. Tomorrow I have an appointment for my 3rd muffler on my 07. I bought this thing with 80000 miles, and it came with a chambered thrush muffler like a flowmaster 40 series. Way too loud, especially when towing. Replaced it with a generic tur...

Re: More camper shenanigans

Twin, you need a better trailer. We have a 2017 Outdoors RV Black Rock with factory shocks, and grease zerts on every suspension piece. We are almost at a year living fulltime in it and thousands of miles of crappy roads. Plus we have used it down to zero degrees with no mods and no winterizing, wit...

Re: Clunking in steering wheel

My 07 has the same issue and I narrowed it down to the steering box. I installed a DOR steering box brace and it cured it for a while. It's back now, so I am sure a new box is in my future. Grab the pitman arm and give it a good shake. If you feel even a bit of up and down movement, you may have fou...

Re: 07 thru 13 alternator recall

Hello Vee, Whining, smoking sounds like the bearings are shot, the most affordable option would be to find an starter/alternate shop and have them rebuild it, if that's not an option. I got one of these from LActrical a new alternator on ebay and it's been great had it for 2+ years with no problems...

I fixed mine with this: https://www.dcpowerinc.com/fit/Dodge~Ram~2008~5.7L-Hemi-V8/11298-270-xp.html So far, so good. I must have hit my LED light bar switch & turned it on. It was on for 3+ hrs @ 300 watts. Started it up, let it run for an hour & both batteries were charged up. Gotta love the 199 ...

Re: 07 thru 13 alternator recall

Ok then. Replaced the alternator, noise and smoke is gone. Hopefully the winch has more power now. Next time I am in town I will ask the dealer about my passenger airbag and the alternator recalls.

07 thru 13 alternator recall

So today my alternator started making whining noises and smelled like smoke. I had the truck tested at Carquest and they said it was charging but was bad. My winch has been shutting down every time it gets a load on it, so I thought my battery was toast. Guess not. I ordered a rebuilt alternator, bu...

Re: Power Wagon Picture Thread

Here is my new yard art. It will get a flag pole and some memorial stuff for my friends I lost in Iraq. It has no title, but is pretty rust free. I wish I could restore it, but this works for me. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170807/11b01d53a5f9d746b8ff1583ef150207.jpg Sent from my SM-G900V usi...
