Re: 17 power wagon. A few question
Just for a little clarification, you'd still have to shift your tcase into 4HI, all this kit does is disengage the front driveshaft electronically. So 4HI essentially remains 2HI but the truck thinks it's in 4WD. 4LO becomes 2LO, which could be beneficial for other purposes, and was the original int...

Yep, I spent most of the day on mine... lol
My bumper is mangled to shit too, time to figure out what I'm going to do about that. But I got across golden crack.. and that's what matters... right!?

Re: MOAB 2017 - May 1-7
Nothing serious, everyone is okay and no one broke down. Golden Spike was a stretch for our trucks and probably impossible to complete without rocker damage without sliders. It took A LOT of spotting and slow moving to get to the 10 mile mark (10 hours), at which point it was almost sunset and we ra...

Re: MOAB 2017 - May 1-7
FR525/Loy Butte Rd. has some great campsites near Sedona. If you need an overnight near Page, AZ there is an amazing campsite in Marble Canyon. We tried like hell to get the Airstream in there and couldn't make it work, but went back with the truck to check it out after, it would be easily accessibl...

Ha, it's been chilly in Moab the last few days, and cold at night. Good timing for it to turn around though!
We did Death Valley in November and it was amazing, I can't deal with those 100's lol.

Re: MOAB 2017 - May 1-7
That makes sense, have you finished the camper, assume you're on the road already? Any possibility of offloading the camper at camp during trail days, or is it not built for that? I'm excited to see it! Fins doesn't have much off camber, nothing I'd be concerned about. I have not run Poison Spider/G...

Re: MOAB 2017 - May 1-7
Day 1/Golden Spike, you'll have the option of completing the Poison Spider Mesa loop and exiting back to Potash instead of proceeding to do Golden Spike and Gold Bar Rim, I'm sure not everyone will want to run the whole thing, it's a very long day. My plan was to see how I'm feeling at the end of Po...

Re: MOAB 2017 - May 1-7
Just a reminder in case it's a surprise to anyone, dogs are not allowed in Canyonlands backcountry.
None of our planned trails enter the park, but if you're considering White Rim or Elephant Hill, it's important to know. Just thought I'd share.

We expect under 15 participants on all days except one (Seven Mile Rim), IF everyone actually shows up. I don't think we'll have a problem with group size.

Re: Limitations of the '16 PW when off-roading
I think that looking under the 2500 can make you paranoid about the low hanging giant pumpkin and driveshaft but in real world use, neither has been a limitation for me with appropriate wheel placement. Sure you can't take the same lines as the hummer guys with their independent suspension, but if y...

As I understand it, the trail can be completed with a day permit but it's not enjoyable as you'll be in the drivers seat the entire time.

If you haven't already, please sign up to attend here: https://powerwagonsinmoab.com/ As for sliders, we've run Poison Spider Loop, Hell's, Fins, Top of the World and others without them (on stock, worn, air'd down tires too!). They are great to have, but careful tire placement works to get around ...

Great info CA, I also tow a 30' AS full time, and I've been seriously considering the AEV kit and hemi 2500 springs (and 37s, of course) to eliminate some squat. Thanks for your feedback.

Re: HAM Radios
Do you know whether your VEC was ARRL or Laurel? ARRL takes about a week I think, Laurel is next business day. Either way it won't take long. My GRMS call was assigned in about 30 mins. Regardless, you'll have comms in time for Moab, and we're actually using channels that you'll be able to use witho...

Re: Common spare parts to carry on trail?
Laguna, are you joining us for the Power Wagons in Moab get together May 1-7, or will you be in Moab before then? I am camped in Moab for the next couple months, if you want to hit the trails with another wagon, let me know.
