Shameless plug for SmugMug for photo hosting. Been with them for years, very happy with the service/quality. Re: Balance beads ?

I've never cared for them in offroad moto applications. Sometimes they break, sometimes they wedge themselves into the valve core when you're deflating a tire.

Re: Kill-switch for electronic nannies

Where do they find the people that make these decisions ? :wtf: Engineering schools. I've worked with engineers who are great engineers but have no concept of the machines they design in reality. I know several engineers who need to have their toolboxes welded shut. Smart people, brilliant on paper...

Re: Rearview Mirror glue

Did take it into ace last night :lockedandloaded: It's a 10-32 screw. Don't remember the length, think it's a 7/16". 37¢. Cleaned the inside of the windshield very well last night, then loctite'd in the mirror+set screw to the button... mirror's holding nice and tight now. now watch, i'll bust the b...

Re: Rearview Mirror glue

Still stuck'd to the window. Going to call this one a win. But .... apparently in one of the falling-off-glue-falling-off-glue-falling-off-glue events I managed to lose the set screw that holds the mirror onto the button. The mirror wiggles up and gets loose every now and then. Not a big deal to sho...

Re: Like I really needed more lights on the dash...

The left-left-left-right-right-right thing is how I know everything's 10-15dB higher than my 7550. :P Not even sure what i'm at now. Taking my truck to the mountains this weekend, so i'll ahve it there to play with if I get some downtime. Back-to-back-to-back intros, then a level-1 (3-day clas...

Re: Like I really needed more lights on the dash...

Both analog and digital. Need to figure out appropriate roaming thresholds for it ... probably my biggest complaint right now. Left those either default or copy/pasta'd from my 7550. With the threshold as low as it is, it tends to pick inappropriate sites. Some audio tuning I need to do yet too, har...

Re: Rearview Mirror glue

I do my best to avoid anything fluorine-related. Shit's bad yo. When I was in the cylinder retest industry, our process/product didn't require devalving cylinders (unlike traditional hydro). We got a LOT of specialty stuff (read: real expensive stuff). One of the semiconductor plants in town had a b...

Re: Rearview Mirror glue

Unless it's electronics grade isopropyl it will leave a residue. That could be part of the problem. Don't know, haven't tried flying things to glass aside from windows with glass adhesive. If the pad is big enough you could probably score with 3M VHB if this round doesn't work for you. All I get is...

Re: Rearview Mirror glue

Yea, the last two were within temp spec. This one, there's not much I can do about it. Truck doesn't fit in my tiny-ass garage. Cleaned everything real good... scraped the old glue, clean with windex, clean several times with alcohol. Used the prep-pad to clean and prep the surface. The last two pop...

Re: Rearview Mirror glue

I've scraped the old stuff with a razor... both windshield- and button-sides are clean. Alcohol wipe both sides, let it dry. Then use the primer/prep wipe with the kit.

If this one fails, I may just take it to a windshield place.

Damn mule, you should do a radio 101 thread for beginners. Looks great, nice clean work as usual sir! Anything in particular? Might start a new thread if there's interest/worthwhile. Basically: Baofengs suck, FRS/GMRS is great for local/group comms; if you need more range than what they provide the...

Mototrbo XPR5550e. Mobile flavor of the 7550 I've carried for a while. Sweet mother of $DEITY that HCH speaker is LOOOOUUUUUUUUUUD. :jawdrop: There's a "Volume Offset" option in the codeplug, defaulted that to +6 like my portable. I think -20 might be a more appropriate value. :o Even at the setting just above muted, it's still just a touch on the loud side. Halfway up...
