Re: Cell Booster install

Testing in the truck this evening I got about 20dB better on voice and 10dB better on 4G. (Measured on the phone's info screen.) Testing in the house earlier I got about 10dB better all around, but the outside antenna was in a real shitty position and had no ground plane. It did help though, and I s...

Cell Booster install

Got tired of shitty coverage in the mountains. Have a booster (older Wilson) in the F550, and it works well. Time to get one in the PW. Mag-mount/NMO antenna up last week. Might drill a hole next summer, for now i'll deal with mag-mount. (If I do drill the roof, i'll probably knock out a hole for UH...

I wish Colorado had a Snowmobiler plate like Utah does.
There was a push for a Stay The Trail plate a few years ago, but politics got involved. :(

Re: Re-installing a couple of HAM radios

Personally, I'd go for a car stereo amp install kit. They're inexpensive, come with power cable, fuse, short ground cable, terminals, and some other cables/wires for amps.
I have 8AWG to the amp/radio in my pickup, seems to work fine.

XPR5550e mobile with HCH for me, along with a fleet of portables (XPR/XTS's). Budget? :cash:  Who do you want to chat with, and what do they have? (Go with that.) Cellphones have their obvious limitations of requiring infrastructure to do anything. Boosters help. Satphones, expensive... both hardware and minutes. They're not as fast/easy as a cellphone, so don't think th...

Re: Front pinion seal replacement.

That was really all that was involved with the rear, when I did it earlier this year. You'll need a puller to get the spline adapter off. It's also got a shitload of torque on the nut when you reassemble. Get everything reassembled, top off diff fluid. https://photos.smugmug.com/Trucks/Ram-2500/i-4x...

How handy are you? My experiences with trailers is they're all built like shit till you get into the $100k+ range. Doesn't matter if you buy a "good name-brand" or some discount one, they're all the same cheap slapped-together crap that lasts just long enough to get it off the dealer's lot. Scotch-l...

Man the white paint still shines on your truck. You shouldn't really have to but a deezee heavyweight bed mat would take care of that gouging. I have a drop in liner so loads slide and the HD bed mat provides grip but it's so thick nothing can gouge it. I have a bed mat from my old-old half-ton. St...

Re: Dash Cam Install

Yeah, the "smart" power adapter has a low-volt cutoff, intended to be connected to a motorcycle's battery. I wired it to an ignition-switched circuit. Might rework that and bypass the cutoff, since the engine has to be running to trip the cutoff and provide power to the DVR/cameras. Can't fire up th...
