Re: ZR2 diesel test drive & test tow

It is also coming up on needing some major repairs. Thats what started us looking elsewhere. What kind of major repairs could you possibly need at 30K, spark plugs? Steering gearbox upgrade, t-style tie rod upgrade, corresponding steering brace upgrade, shocks, tires, etc....etc.... . We all ...

Re: ZR2 diesel test drive & test tow

Apparently, you can lock the rear diff in 2wd but only if it is in "off-road mode". Also, front will only engage in 4Lo & also only if the rear diff is locked first. No 2wd Lo though. I will learn more about this after delivery. The rear locker will not engage unless under 20 mph in "off-road mode",...

BLM Rig" post_id=100249 time=1541226470 user_id=2528] What kind of limitations (if any) does Chevy put on the locker function in the ZR2? [/quote] Same as ours: have to be in Lo range. Probably have to lock the rear first but not 100% sure about that. I did like the fact that they are instantaneous....

ZR2 diesel test drive & test tow

Picked it up, drove it home. Showed 20-30 mpg on 40 min trip home. Re adjusted the hitch, hooked up camper & hit the road. Went to Warsaw NY & went up & down some big ass hills of 7% & 10%. I was shocked, seriously. It was like I had no camper behind at all, seriously. While on that hill, it goes fr...

Re: Fed up!!! (More dura trash)

I have said this before, I think the manufacturers tires that are on many new vehicles are either made to a different standard or they are blems that they buy in LARGE quantities to get huge discounts. Vehicles that we bought new that had tire problems of one sort or another & they only last half a...

Door seal fix

For anyone who has a problem, like i do, with your door seals flattening out & no longer sealing, I came across this neat fix. It a Ford, but no reason it wouldn't work on ours.

added this to the list of things i need to do.

And ????? I see the stock cover has a "channel" for the oil, but our diff housing/axle does not have any holes in it (see white arrows in post by retired BLM rig , pic #3) to redirect/help send oil to the axle tubes, which is what i meant when i said "I don't think ours have anything like that." https://www.etrailer.com/Weight-Distribution/Reese/RP66130.html This is very similar to what i have. Only difference is the sway control bars. Re: Rear Diff Bearings Already

So, then if it is the bearings on either side of the diff, they should be submerged in oil right ? How could they be bad already unless they were set up wrong from the factory ? Could a worn pinion bearing allow enough slop to cause things to shift enough to trash the carrier bearings ? I'm just try...

Re: Good gasket for diffs?

Once you do change it, disconnect the battery & GENTLY & CAREFULLY clean the magnets too. After that, if you tow anything remotely heavy on the regular, I would change fluid every year, 2 at the max. Fluid is cheap.....compared to a new rear end.

Re: Kill-switch for electronic nannies

It's worth mentioning that the locker bypass has a similar benefit as the BD 2Lo kit in that since the harness interrupts the actual lockers with relays the locker lights will not flash inop like is common. The BD 2Lo kit will stop your truck from saying it is shifting into 4WD when it isn't. Will ...

As stated, they are not designed for off road travel---at all. That being said, some designs allow more "give" than others.
