Re: preventive maintence

I've been tweaking my '05 since I bought it new. The best mods have been: 1. Group 31 AGM battery (currently running V-Max Tanks G31) 2. High output alternator (currently running 270amp unit that uses stock serpentine belt) 3. Upgraded headlights (currently running Morimoto 55W HID projectors from R...

Re: Where can I find a fuel filler hose?

You might have to cobble something together. My 2005 just needed blend door repairs on the A/C and Dodge/Ram/ FCA/Stellantis seems to have discontinued a lot of the parts for our trucks. I had to find NOS parts from multiple dealers around the country and it took weeks to track things down and get t...

Re: Lithium Ion Jump Packs

If I can't keep it in the truck, it doesn't do me much good. AG suggested that 6-month charging intervals were too long. Recommended 2-3 months, but manuals I have read say 6 months. I took a bunch of old ni-cad and l-i batteries for recycling to the battery specialist I use. His observation was tha...

Re: Lithium Ion Jump Packs

I just received my replacement XP-10 with the 40 percent discount for my swollen battery. New one is an XP-10 HD. Seems that only difference from the regular XP-10 is heavy duty clamps, but they claim 650amp cranking, up from 600amp. Still thinking about a NOCO 150 or 155 for the PW.

Re: Lithium Ion Jump Packs

Thanks. I just used my small AntiGravity yesterday to run a small Viair compressor to top off tires on a friend's hybrid Lexus. The SUV's battery was buried somewhere under a seat or something and I didn't want to screw with hybrid electrics, so out came the jump pack. The Chinese knockoff unit look...

Lithium Ion Jump Packs

I have at least three Li jump packs, two from Anti-Gravity and one no-name Chinese knockoff. They have typically worked OK, with a couple of exceptions. Current problem is that my expensive Anti-Gravity XP-10 (66 watt/hours) swelled its battery and split the case wide open. This seems to be a common...

Re: Swaybar disconnect killing battery?

This is old news, but my 2005 has been suffering from dead batteries for years and there is no apparent cause. Parasitic drain is within spec every time we check it. If the truck sits for more than a couple of weeks, the battery drops below 11V. New battery, old battery, makes no difference. Batteri...

3G Rear Diff Cover - Free

I'm cleaning out some stuff and found a 3G (2005) stock rear diff cover. In box with bolts, left over from my Rock Crusher install. Free for pick up in Pasadena or Temecula CA, or points in between. Pls PM me if interested.

Re: 3rd Gen Winch Causing Parasitic Drain on Battery

My 3G has had a mysterious parasitic drain problem for years, but when I or a professional tests for drain, it is always within spec at about 25-35 ma. Never tested the winch because it didn't seem necessary. "Solved" the problem by installing a giant Blue Sea Systems disconnect under the hood. Kind...

Re: Thuren Fox 2.0 remote resevoirs for '12 PW

I have Thuren Fox 2.0 Remotes on my 3G and they have been great, on and off road. The PW is not my daily driver, but I live in the LA area and drive the LA freeways to get in and out of town in the PW. The PW rides better than my Tundra CrewMax on ProComp shocks. Are your old 2.0s Thuren-tuned or of...

Re: Painting Sliders - paint brand recommendations?

Since you are stuck in LA, your best choice for rattle can paint will be Krylon. Way better than Rust-O-Leum and dries a lot faster so easier to do the quick touchups. If you can find the color you want (satin black) in a lacquer rattle can, that is even better because nitrocellulose lacquer will ch...

Re: PW swaying

Check your tire pressures. I have had swaying problems on other trucks and more air solved the problem. If your shocks are original, they were toast a while ago.

...doing it in 4th. rpm goes up like its down shifting but it doesnt shift down.
Seems like that might be the torque converter unlocking under load in 4th because of the big tires and and high gearing. My '05 with 4.56s doesn't have that trans, so no real point of comparison.

I have a Banks Monster cat-back on my '05 with a MagnaFlow Y-pipe and I like it. Banks has been on the truck since early '06 and has a lifetime warranty. It's pretty loud when you get on it but does not drone at cruising speeds, even well above posted limits (or so I have heard).

Re: Improving fuel mileage

FWIW, I bought a DiabloSport long ago and could never get it to work on my '05 because my DSL internet connection was apparently too slow to update the software. Few years later I bought an Edge tuner because it was one of the few that I could still get in California after they tightened smog laws a...

Re: A/C Vacuum Leak? Blend Doors?

Even with my crappy hearing I can usually hear the blend doors operating properly at idle, but at WOT up the mountain all I can hear is the exhaust. When I am having the problem, there is no noticeable change in volume through the dash vents, just a gradual change in vent temp as I modulate the thro...

Re: A/C Vacuum Leak? Blend Doors?

It's Baaaack! Driving from Yuma to Temecula this past weekend, I was pulling the long grade from Plaster City up toward Jacumba on I-8. Rise is about 4,000 feet over 20-30 miles, but parts of it are steep so brief periods of full throttle operation. A/C set on max cold, recirc, blower on highest spe...

Re: be glad you have a pw

Well, the mechanic who now does most of the work on my PW drives a new F350 diesel and he claims his front and rear e-lockers work first time, every time. Wish I could say that for my PW.

I found this while I was looking for magnetic plugs. Gale Banks on designing the optimal diff cover. Never thought much about fluid dynamics inside a diff, but this is one of the best videos I have ever seen on YouTube. Worth watching. And they did the dyno testing on a Dodge CTD. The covers for 250...

Re: Locker Issues....

I got my '05 stuck three times in deep sand in September and I could lock the front diff but not the rear diff. Tried to crawl out of the sand and the fronts were doing what they are supposed to do but the rears were just slinging sand, even with the limited slip. New transfer case position sensor w...
